About us

A department was founded in October 1931 of in the period of becoming of institute. The department of «Bases and foundations» of the Kiev polytechnic institute became a base for creation of the department.
In all history of existence the Dnepropetrovsk national university of railway transport department had a few names the «Organization and mechanization of build works, grounds and foundations», «Mechanics of soils, bases and foundations», «Build production, build machines, buildings and foundations, geology».
On a department complex researches were executed in area of soils mechanics and mechanical properties of all basic types of soils are studied. Researches of stability of earthen linen of railways and of the large hydrotechnical buildings are conducted, and also the methods of its increasing are developed. The methods of engineering and geological inspection of landslides on the railways are improved.
In 1949 under the direction of the professor M.N. Goldstein a particular branch problem laboratory of soils mechanics was created (today – particular branch research laboratory of soils mechanics, a manager is the associate professor V.T. Guzchenko). On the base of laboratory soils mechanics of the geotechnical stations on the objects of railways which built and exploited were formed. The problems of stability of earthen linen, buildings a railway, hydrotechnical and other decided on geostations. A laboratory occupied a conducting place in USSR in area of creation of devices, methods and methods of measuring of deformations of the soil bases of a different buildings.
Presently on a department the complex of works on the geotechnical control of earthen buildings are executed, railway embankments, underground transport buildings, including underground and railway tunnels, to drafting of normative documents regulating the increase of stability of artificial transport buildings.
For years the work of department and of a particular branch laboratory 8 doctors and 45 candidates of sciences are prepared.
