    Dniepropetrovsk National University of Railway Transport (DIIT) incorporates 10 faculties, 39 departments, the Scientific & Research Institute of Rolling Stock, Track and Transport Constructions, 16 branch research laboratories, 20 groups of scientific & research departments (SRD). 50 Doctors of Sciences, Professors, 250 Candidates of Technical Sciences, 130 scientific and technical employees of SRD and students, who successfully carry out curricula, are engaged in research work. Every year up to 20 scientific works of fundamental and research orientation, about 100 applied scientific & research tasks are realized. Scientific researches are carried out according to Government programs, the State Committee on Problems of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Machine-Building Industry within the contracts with the USA, Iran, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Russia, Belarus etc. Most of research work is connected with railway transportation. 11 Scientific schools have been established and function at the moment, among them schools of technical mechanics, bridge dynamics, applied mathematics, chemistry of fluorides, soil mechanics that won sound recognition. Such scientific developments as hump decelerators of ÐÍÇ-ÄÈÈÒ model, lubricators of DIIT design, chemical sources of a current for space objects, laser high-power reflectors, new technologies of transport process, simulators for locomotive driver, underwater concreting technology for constructions, running gears design of carriages are widely introduced in CIS countries. Research divisions of the University perform work in the following basic directions:
  • researches in the field of the nonlinear mechanics, dynamics and stability of movement for complex discrete and continual systems;
  • dynamics of high-speed transport;
  • development of information system basis and creation of a data bank about carrying, transportation and traffic capacity of constructions;
  • development of a structure, theoretical bases and functioning algorithms of automated control system for trains breaking-up in the marshalling yards;
  • method development of railway embankments strengthening exposed to slipping and flooding;
  • use of perspective switching elements for reliability increase of rolling stock equipment;
  • technology development for plating of functional galvanic coverings (metals and alloys) with necessary properties;
  • development of means for complex fluorides reception and their quality monitoring;
  • monitoring and means development for working conditions and ecological situation improvement in railways;
  • improvement of the remote teaching system ÀÑÓ-ÂÓÇ (automated control system for higher school) including subsystems "Entrant", and development of teaching & supervising test programs for specialists' training.
   Scientific researches and technical developments are carried out by 16 branch research laboratories and scientific groups of 36 departments of DIIT. Laboratories of DIIT have necessary technical and scientific potential for various applied problems solving, many of which demand the comprehensive approach, i.e. experts attracting from other scientific branches.    DIIT possesses such laboratories accredited for technical competence and independence by Certification System UkrSEPRO and have corresponding certificates and licences:
  • Test laboratory of cars, accreditation certificate ¹UA 6.001.H.846 of 04.03.02 (on the base of BSRLs of "Cars" and "Reliability and unification of electric equipment for rolling stock", departments: heating engineering , automated electric drive); area of accreditation: freight and passenger cars, electric equipment of cars;
  • Test laboratory of rolling stock, the accreditation certificate ¹ UA 6.001.H.366 of 17.06.03 (on the base of BSRL "Dynamics and durability of rolling stock", track testing laboratory of department: automatics, telemechanics and communication; and department: building materials), area of accreditation: diesel locomotives, electric locomotives, freight and passenger cars, electric and diesel trains, special equipment, track machines, railway cranes, containers, track and turnouts, spare parts for railway transport, traffic lights, devices of signal system, building materials and products;
  • Branch research laboratory "Preservation of environment in railway transportation", the accreditation certificate ¹ ÓÇ-ÖÒåõÌ-016-2003 of 29.01.2003, area of accreditation: measurement of speed and volume of gases in gas mains, measurement of dust concentration in technological gases, concentration evaluation of caustic soda, nitric oxide, dioxide of sulphur, a sulphuric acid, carbon oxide, iron, manganese, chromium (III, VI), titanium and phenol.
  • Branch research laboratory "Dynamics of Bridges", licence A-A ¹265039 of 08.04.2002 of Dnepropetrovsk regional authority for building activity in respect of bridges and tunnels design and inspection.
  • The Eastern Scientific Centre of Transport Academy of Ukraine operates at DIIT; Dnepropetrovsk Certification Body for Railway Transportation, the Scientific and Technical Centre for Specialized Rolling Stock has been created here. A number of faculties and laboratories are head organizations for decision-making on railway transportation of Ukraine. Training of the scientific and pedagogical staff is carried out by doctoral studies (6 specialities) and postgraduate studies (20 specialities). Two specialized Academic Councils work for doctor's and master's theses upholding.
   At the technical University the eastern scientific centre of Transport Academy of Ukraine operates; Dnepropetrovsk body of certification for railway transportation facilities, the scientific and technical centre of the specialized rolling stock has been created. A number of faculties and laboratories are master organizations for the decision-making of concrete problems. Training of the scientific and pedagogical staff is made through doctoral studies (6 specialities) and postgraduate study (20 specialities).
